  1. Jacquard’s Loom:-

A French inventor Joseph Marie Jacquared invented and automatic weaving machine called loom in 1801 AD.This loom used punched cards to produce centain pattern in the woven cloth. The function of that loom depended upon the absence or presence of holes on the pounched cards. The presence or absensce of a hole deteched the movement of parts of loom to create a desired pattern. This concept gave the idea of binary digits.Yes and No or 0 and 1 .It could be considered as a first programmable device.Punched card for 19th century computer were designed by using this concept, which is his important contribution to the evolution of the computer.

Difference Engine:-

In 1822 AD Charles Babbage, an English mathematician invented an automatic mechanical calculating machine called Difference Engine. That mathine could solve the quations by calculating differences between them .That devices was also able to store program, perform calculations and print the result autmatically.

Analytical Engine:-

After working on his difference Engine,Babbage was encouraged and he came up with another device called  Analytical Engine in 1833 AD.It was first general purpose, fully programmable automatic mechanical counting computer .But he could not complete his engine systems. After 104 years (in 1973) howard Aiken Professor of Harvard University deleloped the first automatic electromechanical computer using Babbage ‘s idea .Our moder computer are all based on Babbage’s idea and technology .Due to his contribution to the basic design of modern computer he is also honoured as the Father of Mordern Computer Science.

Lady Augusta Ada Lovelance

Lady Augusta Ada Lovelance was the students of Charles Babbage. She helped to correct some errors in the Babbage’s work In 1848 AD she made first programming language for Analytical Engine .She suggented him to use binary number system for programs and data to be fed into the Analytical Engine on punched cards. It was the first programming concept so, she is known as first computer programmer. She made some programs for Analytical Engine. In 1979 AD the US Defense Department named programming language ADA in her honour.
