POINT TO REMEBER
- In 1962 AD international conference of computer scientist was held and decided to give generations for the development of computer
- The classification of computer on the basis of their speed, capacity, reliability, memory device and performance in a certain period is known as computer generation .
- First generation computers were developed between 1946 AD to 1958 AD.
- The first generation computer used vacuum tubes as electronic circuits.
- Second generation computer were developed between 1959 AD to 1974 AD.
- The second generation computers used transistors instead of vacuum tubes.
- Third generation computer were developed between 1965 AD to 1974 AD.
- The third generation computer used integrated circuits(IC) as a electronic circuit.
- Fourth generation computer were developed during 1975 AD to 1990 AD.
- The fouth generation computers used LSI and VLSI known as microprocessor as electronic circuits
- The fifth generation computers are being developed since 1991 AD and moving towards the advanced technologies.
- The main components of fifth generation computer is Intelligence Knowledge Based System(IKBS)
