OPERATING SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION TO OS:-

           A computer system performs various tasks .To perform these tasks various resources of computer are used .So to control and to co-ordinate the resource of the computer if defferent for the human operator.To minimize the difficulty to manage the computer a master control program known as operating system is used in computer.This program ensures the optimum utilization of the computer resources and reduces the complexity of the user to use the computer.
           Operation system is a set of programs that control and co-ordinates the operation of the computer .It works as a interface or translator between hardware and the user.The primary purpose of the operating system is to maximize the productivity of the computer system by operating in the most effective manner and to minimize the human intervention .Operating system is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the entire computer system.

Functions of Operating System:-

·      It manages all other programs that run on the computer.
·      It manages all the files and folders in the disk I.E. stores and transfers from one device to another.
·      It manages the hardware of the computer and co-ordinates them with other programs
·      It provides interface to the user to interact with the computer i.e.establishes a communication channel between computer and user.
·      Memory management,that is allocation of the memory space to the running programs is done by OS
·      It runs other application program for user.


Types of Operating System:-

                       Several types of operating systems are developed till date.Different types of operating systems are available for different brand of computer,defferent working environment and different type of work .Some operating systems works on network environment but other are standalone.Some general type of operating system are given below.
