Default        : Preselected option adopted by computer when no alternative is given
Multiuser    : OS that can process request made by more than one user at a time
Mutitasking: OS that can perform more than one task at a time.

  • Operating system is a set of programs that control and coordinate the overall operating of the computer by managing resources,managining information,running program and providing user interface to the user.
  • There are several type of operating system to run on different computer,different environment and with different user interface .Some comman OS are UNIX,DOS Linux,WINDOWS nd OS/2.
  • OS manages information in file,a named collection of related information,identified by unique that contains information about program,data used by program or document created by user.
  • The filename contains two parts:name part and extension part,name identifies the file and type identifies the type of file,and are separated by period.
  • Folder or directory in container of files.The directory inside a directory is sub-directory in the directory that contains the sub-directory is known is as parent directory .The directory in the topmost hierarchy is root directory.
  • Path is rout,leading from the root directory of a drive to particular file,followed by OS in finding and retrieving files on a disk.
  • Wildcard character is a keyboard character that can be used to represent one or more characters.Asterisk(*)respresent number of characters and ? represents sigle character.
  • Default drive is drive that is selected automatically for reading and writing data.
  • Booting is the process of starting or restarting c computer to make computer ready to work by checking the basic hardware and loading the system files in computer memory.The two types of booting are:cold boot and warm boot.
